Are these players being overlooked? – low ownership players to consider

These players haven’t been popular with FPL managers so far but are we missing a trick? Here is my pick of low owned players all managers should be considering.

Goalkeeper

Carlos Miguel, Nottingham Forest – 1.2% owned – Forest have a fixture run at the start and their new goalkeeper signing could benefit from joining one of the statistically best defenses from the back-end of last season. The issue is whether he’ll take Matz Sels place or not.

Defence

Lewis Hall, Newcastle – 2.2% owned – he’s probably not on the radar because Dan Burn featured so heavily at left-back last season but if pre-season is to be trusted, it’s Hall who’ll be a more regular fixture in that position. Fixtures are great and I’m expecting a more consistent and stronger Newcastle this year.

Pau Torres, Aston Villa – 1.2% owned – at £4.5m he’s great value and his debut season in the Prem scored well, especially in Villa’s early good run. A year of Premier League football under his belt and with nice fixtures for Villa to begin with, there’s no reason he can’t repeat his FPL scoring from last year.

Midfield

Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool – 2.5% owned – he’s been playing a very advanced role in Liverpool’s pre-season games. Slot appears to want to make the most of his technical ability in the final third. Could he be an even better pick than the traditional Liverpool picks of Salah and Trent?

Mitoma, Brighton – 1.8% owned – has everyone forgotten his first season in FPL? Possibly the bargain of the year in 22/23 and featured heavily in some of the best scoring teams that year. Injury and Brighton’s European games impacted his return last year but capable of so much and could shine again this year.

Sávio, Man City – 0.5% owned – at just £6.5m he’s a bargain way to get to the City midfield. Definite question marks over his game time but isn’t that always the case for City players? If there’s room in the squad and doesn’t block a move for other City players, then a punt on a tricky winger who can take on defenders in either direction could be a masterstroke. Could bring to City what they’ve been missing since Mahrez left. I’m more likely to wait and see what his gametime is like but early adopters might reap the early season rewards.

Forwards

Chris Wood, Nottingham Forest – 5% owned – a bargain at £6.0m and likely to be Forest’s main striker. A Premier League veteran who knows where the goal is in a settled team with good fixtures. Where’s the downside?

Niclas Füllkrug, West Ham – 2% owned – a bit of a blunt instrument and not quite a bargain at £7.0m but anyone who has watched Germany over the last few years will know that he’s been an effective tournament Plan B for them. Likely to get more gametime than that at West Ham though and should provide a good focal point for the Hammer’s other attackers to work with. Although fixtures aren’t great to begin with, he’s the sort of player who can get a goal regardless of the run of play or opposition.

Gameweek 3 Team Reveal and Transfer Plans

August 30, 2024
Gameweek 2 was eventful to say the least. I'm hoping the season carries on this way - early on there's little to lose as teams get back into fitness and form and the jeopardy of relegation or title run-ins isn't there yet. We've seen some pretty open football with lots of goals, ideal for FPL fun. So far my team has fared on the average side, scoring decent points both weeks so far but definitely nothing special. FPL is a marathon not a sprint so we all need to keep calm despite the madness of the football. I wish I had taken that advice last week instead of using a transfer on a useless change, but it's so hard to resist tinkering.

GW 3 Early Thoughts

August 27, 2024
Chelsea’s 6-2 win showcased their FPL potential, with Madueke and Palmer starring, but rotation risks make Chelsea assets tricky. Haaland’s Triple Captaincy paid off with a hat-trick, while Arsenal’s defense continues to shine. Liverpool and Man United remain inconsistent, while Brighton and Villa show promise. Questions?
